Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine at NMSU Wins Higher Education Marketing Award
The Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine (BCOM) at New Mexico State University (NMSU), a new Osteopathic Medicine School scheduled to open in August 2016, won a gold award for its electronic newsletter series by the Higher Education Marketing Report, the most widely read publication for education marketers. Twenty higher education institutions received awards ranging from Award of Merit, to Bronze, Silver and Gold. BCOM was honored to receive a gold award alongside an established institution in the University of Oklahoma.
“This is a huge honor for a brand new medical school,” said John L. Hummer, BCOM president. “We know the marketing we are doing is working, because we have a waiting list for our inaugural class. It is the quality of BCOM’s team members, accepted students and the reality of our mission, which is reflected in our communications. Receiving this honor from the leading educational marketing organization, only validates we are on the right track.”
The newsletter series was created by The Lawlor Group, one of the country’s leading educational institution marketing firms. Assisting them in providing content was BCOM’s Assistant Dean for Multi-Cultural Affairs Justin McHorse. The newsletter is being sent to 3,000 people, with an open rate of 60 percent, which far exceeds the national average of 15 to 20 percent.
