Maryland University of Integrative Health’s (MUIH) “YOU Wellness” Program will be recognized as a Silver Level workplace by the Healthiest Maryland Businesses (HMB) collaborative at its 2020 HMB Wellness at Work awards.

The Healthiest Maryland Businesses (HMB) Wellness at Work Awards Program recognizes Maryland businesses that are committed to improving employee health and well-being.

MUIH is particularly proud of being awarded this recognition as the “YOU Wellness” Program was a collaborative project developed by health promotion students, Chelsey Barrett, Amanda Breon and Kim Davis in coordination with health promotion and health and wellness faculty. “The impact of the program on staff was clearly evident,” said Claudia Joy Wingo who serves as department chair for the Health Promotion Department. One participant in the program stated, “This program matters; the foundation of this University is built on wellness and has a key role of who we are as an institution. It helps us serve as ambassadors for the university and the greater community.”

HMB is a collaborative of Maryland businesses with a shared mission of improving health through worksite wellness efforts. Participating businesses are referred to accredited work site wellness resources, receive education and assistance, and are recognized for their commitment to improving the health of their workforce. This statewide movement works to build and promote a culture of wellness in the workplace—fostering an environment that makes the healthiest choice the easiest choice. Being recognized at the Silver Level means that MUIH has established worksite wellness practices and workplace health improvement plans that include a majority of strategy types.

“We are proud to be recognized as a Silver Level award recipient by the HMB collaborative. This award speaks to all the hard work and effort exhibited by our faculty, and students to make MUIH a healthier place for all who walk through our doors,” said Marc Levin, president, and CEO.

Due to COVID-19, the 11th Annual Maryland Workplace Health and Wellness Symposium scheduled for May 2020 was cancelled. The HMB Awards webinar is scheduled for August 5, 2020.
