OmegaQuant Partners with Standard Process

OmegaQuant (Sioux Falls, SD) has partnered with Standard Process (Palmyra, WI) to offer an Omega-3 Index testing kit to help health care practitioners better educate and support patients’ health. By partnering with OmegaQuant, the premier lab for Omega-3 Index testing, Standard Process is better able to help patients support conditions related to cardiovascular health, brain health, and a healthy inflammatory process with its family of omega-3 supplements.

Omega-3s EPA and DHA play an important role in supporting health within the human body, especially in the brain, heart, eyes and joints. However, most Americans lack this important nutrient.

“Using the Omega-3 Index Plus test results as a guide, practitioners can measure the presence of omega-3s EPA and DHA in the body,” said Ken Misher, product marketing manager at Standard Process. “It’s the first step toward recommending important, but manageable, changes to patients’ diets and lifestyles.”

The Standard Process Omega-3 Index Plus test kit was developed by OmegaQuant, which was founded by William S. Harris, PhD. Dr. Harris is renowned for developing the Omega-3 Index based on research connecting higher omega-3 levels with lower risk of cardiovascular disease. Studies have shown people with a higher (vs. lower) Omega-3 Index support their heart, brain and eye health and are at a decreased risk for a variety of disorders. OmegaQuant is the world’s only CLIA-certified laboratory dedicated to fatty acid analysis.

“Our goal is to provide simple tests of nutritional status to help improve health,” said Dr. Harris. “Omega-3, omega-6 and trans fats all play a role in a person’s health, and tracking these numbers can help optimize their well-being.”

With the Omega-3 Index Plus test kit, staff can conveniently collect patient blood samples in the office to send to the Sioux Falls-based OmegaQuant lab for analysis. A personalized report is provided to practitioners and the patient, which will include the Omega-3 Index results; ratio of omega-6 to omega-3; AA/EPA ratio; trans-fat index; as well as individualized recommendations. An Omega-3 Index between 8 and 12 percent is considered the optimal range.
