Poll Says Probiotics Perceived as More Important Than Multivitamins
A nationwide survey sponsored by KeVita Sparkling Probiotic Drinks (Ventura, CA) and conducted among certified dietitians and nutritionists showed 66 percent believe taking a daily probiotic is more important than taking a daily multivitamin.
Sharon Richter, registered dietitian and nutrition ambassador, KeVita, said the multivitamin used to be the “go-to” daily health supplement. “This finding provides real tangible evidence of a shift we’ve been seeing in self-managed health and nutrition,” said Richter. “The gut is being more widely recognized as the epicenter of overall wellness and an increasing amount of clinical data is emerging on the benefits of probiotics, beyond digestion.”
The survey was administered among 235 registered dietitians and 122 certified nutritionists. According to Richter, this indication that probiotics have surpassed the perceived importance of the multi-vitamin by professional nutritionists speaks volumes to probiotics’ awareness trajectory.
“We are seeing potential correlations with chronic conditions and the over processing, over pasteurizing and over sterilization of our foods and environment, which has had a detrimental impact on the good bacteria from our modern diet,” said Richter.
