IFM Releases 2025 Impact Report

by Shari Barbanel | May 27, 2026

IFMThe Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) has released its 2025 Impact Report, highlighting growing patient demand for functional medicine and IFM’s continued work to advance the reach, rigor, and recognition of the field worldwide.

“The 2025 Impact Report tells a powerful story of IFM’s strengthened reach and functional medicine’s increased momentum,” said Amy R. Mack, MSES, MPA, CEO of IFM. “It reflects growing patient interest in functional medicine, a stronger and more connected professional community, and a shared commitment to advancing patient care through root-cause, whole-person approaches. IFM is proud to support and advance our mission-driven work.”

Among IFM’s achievements last year, the organization:

  • Trained 13,129 unique practitioners in 2025, bringing the total number of clinicians educated by IFM since 1991 to more than 103,800 practitioners.
  • Certified 384 practitioners in the final IFM Certified Practitioner Cohort in July 2025, increasing the total number of certified practitioners since 2013 to 2,940.
  • Provided more than $1.59 million in scholarships, discounts and tuition assistance to support access to IFM’s ACCME-accredited functional medicine education.
  • Collaborated with more than 55 partners and organizational members across academic and health care institutions, international organizations, interprofessional associations and industry to expand training and improve patient outcomes.
  • Recorded more than 2.3 million views and searches on IFM’s Find a Practitioner platform, reflecting continued patient demand for functional medicine clinicians.

In 2025, following a formal resolution of the IFM Governing Board of Directors, IFM established the International Board of Functional Medicine Certification (IBFMC) as the first-ever certifying board for the field of functional medicine. The autonomous board oversees the new Functional Medicine Certification Program, which meets the gold standard requirements of the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), ensuring consistent standards for certification as functional medicine continues to expand across licensures and scopes of practice.

Alongside education and certification, IFM convened a group of researchers and clinicians to discuss the tenets of functional medicine research and highlight emerging studies on its Research Page. IFM also engaged in policy discussions to ensure functional medicine is accurately defined and represented in health care research and policy.

“The future is functional,” continued Mack, “and IFM is leading into that future now—one practitioner and one patient at a time.”
